The Boys Star Terrifies In New Horror Movie

By Britta DeVore

So many of us may know him as sweet Hughie from Prime Video’s The Boys, but today Jack Quaid is the stuff of nightmares in a trailer for his upcoming film, Companion. Starring opposite Quaid is Yellowjackets and The Boogeyman’s Sophie Thatcher, who, in the trailer, appears to be a prisoner of Quaid’s.

Serving as the feature-length directorial debut of Drew Hancock, the first look certainly shows viewers a very different side of Quaid.

Check Jack Quaid in Companion.

In the opening seconds of the teaser, while The Flamingos’ song “I Only Have Eyes for You” plays over top, we see a chef putting the final touches on a meal before delivering it to a seated couple (Quaid, Thatcher).

The moment appears to be a touching one, with two love birds seemingly enjoying a fancy dinner from the comfort of their own home. But, as the camera pans to the chair where Thatcher is sitting, it’s obvious that Companion will be anything but your next favorite rom-com.

That’s because Thatcher has been handcuffed to her seat. The rest of the trailer for Companion shows the not-so-happy couple in unsettling circumstances, including a clip where Quaid is holding her at gunpoint and another in which she’s trying to break free from her captor by slamming his hand in a car door.

The teaser ends in literal flames as Thatcher’s entire arm is engulfed by a candle at the dinner table.

Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher aren’t the only two familiar faces viewers will spot in the Companion trailer as The White Lotus, You, and Smile 2’s Lukas Gage pops up throughout and seems to be in cahoots with Quaid.

Originally, Companion was meant to be the follow-up feature for filmmaker Zach Cregger, who made his grand entrance onto the scene with 2022’s Barbarian.

We also see a mustachioed Rupert Friend (Hitman: Agent 47, Anatomy of a Scandal) catch a switchblade to the neck. He probably deserved it. The rest of the cast includes What We Do in the Shadows’ Harvey Guillén and Never Have I Ever’s Megan Suri.

Originally, Companion was meant to be the follow-up feature for filmmaker Zach Cregger, who made his grand entrance onto the scene with 2022’s Barbarian.

Instead, Cregger will serve as a producer, passing the reins to Hancock who also penned the script. Joining Cregger as producers are Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshtiz with New Line Cinema, Vertigo Entertainment, and BoulderLight Pictures.

Fans of Zach Cregger need not worry as, although he may not be directing Companion, the celebrated horror filmmaker is busy at work on a different project in the same vein. Cregger’s follow-up production, Weapons, is set for a release in early 2026 and will center around a myriad of intertwined lives in a small town in Florida.

Boasting a stacked ensemble, the film will feature performances from Josh Brolin (Outer Range), Julia Garner (Apartment 7A), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and more.

As for Jack Quaid, along with Companion, the actor will (hopefully) soon be heading back to Toronto to work with Eric Kripke and the rest of the team on the fifth and final season of The Boys. His name is also attached to the Dan Berk and Robert Olsen co-directed action thriller flick, Novocaine, and Ilya Naishuller’s action comedy, Heads of State.

The Iconic Sci-Fi Adventure Series You Can't Find Anywhere On Streaming

The series is based on characters created in 1928 by science fiction writer Philip Francis Nowlan, whose novella Armageddon 2419 A.D. later spawned comic strips, a serial film, and early radio and TV shows.

Glen A. Larson and Leslie Stevens eventually adapted Buck Rogers in the 25th Century for network television in the late 1970s as it vied for a share of the ever-growing market of young sci-fi fans.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century follows its title character half a millennium after he is accidentally frozen. Revived 504 years later, Buck Rogers tries comically to adjust to the social changes of the future, all while helping the Earth Defense Directorate fend off warring factions from the planet Draconian.

Throughout its two-season run, the show featured prominent guest stars and up-and-coming performers, including Markie Post, Richard Moll, Vera Miles, Buster Crabbe, Jerry Orbach, and Sid Haig.

Netflix Sitcom Set In the ‘90s Is A Criminally Underrated Hidden Gem

derry girls

As great as the setting is, characters are always the most important part of a sitcom, and Derry Girls is no exception.

The core friend group consists of pseudo-intellectual Erin, eccentric Orla, high-strung Clare, party girl Michelle, and group punching bag James are consistently funny characters.  It’s also full of character-driven gags, such as James being the only boy at their school, and Orla constantly reading Erin’s diary out loud for her personal enjoyment.
